Peter Weller

Peter Weller, noted member of the world’s film community, was most recently seen as “Admiral Alexander Marcus” in J.J. Abrams’ superb Star Trek: Into Darkness. He and wife, Sheri have a son, Theodore Mark Gerald Francesco Weller - 5 names, one kid. In addition, Weller’s adult daughter, Kate Linden, is a noted film talent manager in Los Angeles.

Weller has his PhD in Italian Renaissance and Ancient Roman Art History from UCLA and speaks French, Italian, German, Spanish and reads Latin. He received his B.A. from University of North Texas in Speech and English and holds a 2004 Master’s Degree in Italian Renaissance Art History from Syracuse University in Florence, Italy where he teaches field trips. A published art historian (Artibus et Historiae 2012), Weller writes on Italian art for several magazines including TRAVEL LEISURE and has presented academic papers on the Renaissance and Antiquity for the RENAISSANCE SOCIETY OF AMERICA and the 16th CENTURY SOCIETY. Weller is scholar/moderator for The History Channel’s series Engineering an Empire and, in the spring, teaches a graduate course at his PhD alma mater, UCLA.

Theatrically, Weller attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, studied professionally with the great Uta Hagen and was inducted into Actors Studio by legendary Elia Kazan. Among New York theatre credits are the original productions of David Rabe’s Sticks and Bones and Streamers (directed by Mike Nichols), David Mamet’s The Woods, William Inge’s Summer Brave, William Mastrosimone’s The Wool Gatherer, Richard Nelson’s Frank’s Home and Eric Maria Remarque’s Full Circle, directed by Otto.

Preminger. His films include Alan Parker’s Shoot the Moon, Paul Verhoven’s RoboCop, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, Woody Allen’s Mighty Aphrodite, Michelangelo Antonioni’s Beyond the Clouds, Michael Tolkin’s The New Age and David Cronenberg’s film of William Burroughs seminal,Naked Lunch. He was nominated for an ACADEMY AWARD for directing the live-action short film Partners, an INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARD for Ivan’s Ecstasy and a SAG AWARD for Dexter. Among his television directorial credits, his episode of Hate Crimes for Homicide: Life on the Streetreceived the Nancy Susan Reynolds Award for Civil Rights. His recent guest star appearance on the episode White Tulip for Fringe, as well as Season 5 of “24,” Season 6 of Dexter and the recent remake of the original Hawaii 5-0’s Hookman,’ which Weller both directed and guest starred, received of the highest critical acclaim for these shows to date. He notably directed on the FX series Sons of Anarchy, in which he also had the recurring role of Charles Barosky, and A & E’s Longmire, in which he plays the recurring role of Uncle Lucian. He continues to direct on Hawaii 5-0 as well as for The Last Ship, Tyrant, and for Guillermo del Toro’s series The Strain for FX.

Peter and his wife, Sheri, were introduced into the cultural realms of Europe and Asia, inclusive of antiquity, history, art, architecture and cuisine through personal experience as world travelers and French and Italian residents, particularly on the Mediterranean coast of Campagna, where they have lived part time for over almost three decades, assisting friends and strangers in the “how, where and why” to travel Europe. He plays bebop/jazz trumpet with a sextet in Los Angeles.
